Years after the closure of the Philippines infamous Smokey Mountain garbage dump, a newer facility has opened in the shadow of the original. Located along Manila Bay in the heart of Manila's largest slum are thousands of the poorest of the poor, seeking what they can from garbage trucks which come to dump their loads non-stop day and night. Children work alongside adults sorting through the trash. There is at least one organization that has set up a school to try and get the children off the pit and into the classroom.
